Additional Parts Information

First, his hair started falling out. Then skin started peeling from his toes. Some stuffing came out of his belly button, and a piece of something gray and wet-his brain?-fell out of his nose. Is this normal? Or is this boy coming unglued? With a perfect combination of humor and grossness, this look at one boy's farfetched fears will have readers laughing their heads off!

"A zany, ultimately reassuring take on something that may indeed be a child's bugaboo." -Booklist

What Customers Say About Parts:

Now mine do the same.As you read along, the little boy learns about all the different parts of the body that we lose. It is, as I said, amusing to watch the expressions on the children's faces as you read and they begin to wonder, as well. This book is a delightful one to have in the house in case you have small visitors. He begins to wonder if he is going to have everything fall off or get lost. The dialogue is presented in an interesting way and it is a good way to open up discussions and answer questions that children might not think to ask otherwise. It is fun to read to them and watch the expressions on their faces. A friend introduced me to the book that she had purchased for her grandchildren and they take it out first thing when they come to visit.

I suggest this book for everybody. We absolutely love this book. It is hilarious and the kids bust a gut laughing no matter how many times we have read it.

The illustrations are wonderfully entertaining with lots to look at and they are a snapshot of what a young boy might actually be picturing in his head about what is happening to his body.It is hard to find good books that entertain and interest boys of this age, as so many books at this age level seem to be aimed at girls, but this book really hits the fun mark in silly ways that boys at this age are masters of. This is a fun book for boys ages 4-8. I would also highly recommend the sequel "More Parts" for the same reasons, although the third book "Even More Parts" is quite different and takes a simple look at idioms such as "laughing my head off"--it was more intellectual rather than entertaining. It also shows them that slowing down a few minutes to read can be just as much fun as conquering the universe. The rhyming verses are clever and well-written and are easy enough for a beginning reader to tackle, although it is much more fun to have an adult read it with tone and inflection. The book takes a humorous look at what actually happens to kids' bodies as they grow up in literal ways that adults never really think about, from teeth falling out to blisters/dead skin that sloughs off.

Can't wait for the next book in the series. I even caught them in the act of reading it to their kids just so they could enjoy the story too. Both grandkids love the little boy who thinks he is falling apart, especially the oldest who just found out her tooth is loose. After reading the book, which kindly pokes fun at the far side humor of discovering that it is all right to have a loose tooth and belly lint, she is okay with losing that tooth. The older ones (and I mean old) loved reading it too.

Both the story and illustrations are geared to that wonderful age. This book and the others in the series are just fascinating to my four year old grandson.
